Avanti™ DDM
n-dodecyl-ß-D-maltoside (DDM), or n-dodecyl-β-D-maltopyranoside, is a high-purity, non-ionic detergent extensively used to study the solubilization, stabilization, and structure of membrane proteins. Unlike harsh detergents that can denature proteins, DDM gently disrupts lipid bilayers while preserving protein functionality.
With a low critical micelle concentration (CMC) of approximately 0.17 mM and a high aggregation number, DDM forms exceptionally stable micelles that enhance protein solubility and long-term stability. Its mild amphiphilic nature makes it a preferred detergent in cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and NMR studies—where maintaining native protein confirmation is highly important.
DDM is widely used for isolating and purifying membrane proteins—including G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) and ion channels—to ensure structural integrity and functional activity. It’s frequently used in X-ray crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and electron microscopy to facilitate high-resolution structural analysis.
